SMC University makes available the option of completing on-campus residencies for all courses. Courses offered in residency form are modular in design typically of a week's duration each and are held at the Belvedere Campus in Vienna, Austria.

There is no set residency requirement for Master or Doctoral programs. The residencies provided by the University are to encourage students to be on campus for a portion of their studies and to experience the dynamic interaction between fellow colleagues and professors. However, attendance at residencies is not a necessity or pre-requisite for graduation.

Since students begin their studies at SMC University on an individual basis residencies are planned and provided on an ad-hoc demand basis several times each year. The university's administration does its utmost to schedule residencies at a time of year that enables students from all backgrounds and religious faiths to attend without conflict to those important obligations.

Residency modules are taught by the same faculty members as the standard courses within the program and as such there is consistency in both workload requirements for the student and presentation of course materials by the professors. Students are typically required to prepare readings before a residency as well as complete coursework within one month after the residency is concluded. All residency modules are taught using the "Fronter" learning platform.

Residency modules can enable a student to progress often at a faster pace through their program as these courses are completed in a focused manner over a short period of time. However, residencies are also a very intense and demanding by their design and as such must be understood to be a serious challenge for all participants. As such, most students taking part in residencies do so as complement to their on-line study.
