Research work forms an important component of each Master and Doctoral degree at SMC University. That means our students graduate being able to consider research within the academic and scholarly arena and are able to apply it to the domain of operating business, a key skill-set to operate effectively in today's complex world.

Master Program Requirement

At the Master level students are expected to carry out research in an end-of-study project that shows they have mastered the program material and are able to apply it to a business situation in a clear, concise and effective manner as they would be expected to do within a business setting.

Doctoral Program Requirement

At the Doctorate level students are expected to carry out scholarly research of an area or domain by contributing originality to the existing knowledge base and making a substantive contributing to the overall scholarship of their chosen field of study. Doctoral Student: Beardsell, Julie
  • Title: Outsourcing Innovation As Enabler For Competitive Advantage In The Financial Services Sector

Description:

Outsourcing was originally confined to peripheral business functions and mainly motivated by a cost saving logic, but has now developed into a routine strategic management move that affects not only peripheral functions but drives to the heart of the competitive core of organizations. This dissertation explores the innovation-focused paradigm for strategic outsourcing, identifying the behavior of firms that are successful in developing the core competencies required in providing innovation, whilst exploring the impact that culture plays as an inevitable influencing factor in the global ICT services landscape.

Doctoral Student: Henderson, Jeffrey
  • Title: Corporate Citizenship In Canada: A Survey of Corporate Canada
  • Status: In Progress

Description:

The purpose of the study is to examine in a rigorous fashion the nature of corporate citizenship as it exist within the Top 500 companies in Canada as measured by market capitalization, approximately $1.5 trillion US. As such, their existing programs and procedures along with their future intensions will shed light on the state of affairs and attitudes towards Corporate Citizenship within the professional community as it now exists in Canada.


Doctoral Student: Wong, Kit Chee
  • Title: The Growth of Singapore SMEs and Its Inspiration by Financial Equites & Incentives
  • Status: Successfully Defended

Description:

This research is intended to find out the correlation between local business performance and the number of major dependent variables such as performance, punctuality and absenteeism etc. It studies how an organization’s performance is correlated to various incentives.
