SMC Symposium on Sept. 11, 2008

Symposium for SMC members

Venue: Swiss Management Center, Landstraßer Gürtel 3, 1030 Vienna, Austria

We are proud to invite you to the SMC Symposium on Sustainability for SMC Members and special invitees.

Sustainability is a concept that touches all aspects of personal and professional life. In fact, the health of the planet is directly tied to the way in which business people view sustainability issues and their place within the discourse of Social Issues in Management.

Sustainability includes topics of Corporate Social Responsibility, Corporate Citizenship, Governance and Social Justice. Along with an increasing general appreciation for the importance of sustainability issues in all aspects of modern life comes changing definitions of both corporate and personal social responsibility. Society is presently grappling with conflicting priorities, orientations and viewpoints with respect to this dynamic area of study.

SMC believes that the future of management is intricately intertwined and dependent on the integration of social responsibility into the societal fabric. Without a long-term healthy and sustainable future there can be no short-term economic prosperity. Individuals are at the core of this change. Individual business leaders will be the change agents for a more sustainable future. Understanding the integration of personal beliefs systems to those of society to produce workable results is paramount to moving action forward and providing solutions to today's most pressing problems.

SMC is proud to be at the forefront of sustainability thought and action. Please join us as we explore these topics and their impact on management and society.

Literature to be made available in pdf form 2 weeks prior to the symposium. To include but not limited to: Porter, Donna Wood Overview, Carroll, Friedman, Freeman, Lee,  other major contributors. Case study and Dr. Williams Congruence model literature.
